Karan Bains

Karan is a MSc student, supervised by Dan Coombs at the University of British Columbia. His area of research is Mathematical Epidemiology and the title of his project is A quantitative understanding of the experience of people who use opioids in British Columbia.

Berkant Cünnük

Berkant is a MSc student, supervised by Margherita Maria Ferrari at the University of Manitoba. His areas of research are Combinatorics and Mathematical Modelling. The title of his project is Using machine learning to analyze R-loop imaging data.

Mojtaba Kanani Sarcheshmeh

Mojtaba is a MSc student, supervised by Qingrun Zhang at the University of Calgary. His areas of research are Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. The title of his project is Penalized Models for Cancer Prognosis and Treatment Response.

Flora (Yimeng) Liu

Flora is a MSc student, supervised by Farouk Nathoo and Brad Nelson at the University of Victoria. Her areas of research are Spatial Statistics and Biostatistics and the title of her project is Identifying Paired Antigen Receptor Subunits from Spatial Gene Expression Data for Ovarian Cancer.

PhD Students

Arjun Banik

Arjun is a PhD student, supervised by Laura Cowen and Saman Muthukumarana at the University of Victoria. Arjun’s area of research is Statistical Ecology and the title of Arjun’s project is Unraveling Dolly Varden Survival Patterns: A Bayesian Multi-state Approach with Covariate Considerations.

Maryam Kiakojouri

Maryam is a PhD student, supervised by Artur Luczak at the University of Lethbridge. Her area of research is Parkinson’s disease and the title of her project is Integrating Control Theory and EEG Data Analysis for Advancing Parkinson’s Disease Research.

Dominic Olver

Dominic is a PhD student, supervised by James Benson at the University of Saskatchewan. His area of research is Cryobiology and the title of his project is Validation of biomechanical models of oocyte cryopreservation damage.

Md. Mijanur Rahman

Md. Mijanur is a PhD student, supervised by Rebecca Tyson and Eric Foxall at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. His areas of research are Epidemiology and Opinion Dynamics. The title of his project is Impact of Government Policies and Opinion Dynamics on the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Yukon Territory and the British Columbia (Interior) of Canada.

Alexandra Shyntar

Alexandra is a PhD student, supervised by Thomas Hillen at the University of Alberta. Her area of research is Mathematical Biology Heterogeneous Disease Modelling.

Madeline Ward

Madeline is a PhD student, supervised by Rob Deardon (University of Calgary) and Lorna Deeth (University of Guelph). Her areas of research are Epidemic Modelling and Bayesian Statistics. The title of her project is Bayesian behavioural change epidemic models.

Postdocs

Clotilde Djuikem

Clotilde is a Postdoctoral Fellow, supervised by Julien Arino (University of Manitoba). Her area of research is mathematical epidemiology, deterministic and stochastic models. The title of her project is Study the transmission of viral pathogens among four fish species in the Western Canadian Arctic, considering the impact of climate change.
