Quantitative Medicine & Physiology

The Quantitative Medicine and Physiology (QMP) working group fosters the use of biophysical, mathematical, computational and statistical methods to analyze and model biological and physiological systems. Key Applications:

  • Disease Modelling & Prediction – Simulates non-infectious disease progression (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative disorders) and predicts patient-specific outcomes using biomarkers and clinical data.
  • Pharmacokinetics & Drug Development – Models drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination to optimize dosing for personalized medicine.
  • Medical Imaging & Diagnostics – Develops segmentation and detection algorithms for improved imaging analysis.
  • Physiology – Builds mathematical models of blood flow, heart dynamics and lung function.
  • Systems Biology & Molecular Medicine – Integrates multi-omics data to understand cell functions and disease mechanisms, modeling signaling pathways and regulatory networks for targeted therapies.
  • Biomechanics & Cell Structure – Develops models for tissue mechanics, cellular architecture and mechanotransduction.
